Did you know that on average 18% of all the licensing board disciplines are related to sexual behavior-related violations? At least 1 in 8 clinicians have self-reported sexual boundary crossing with their clients during their career.

As a practice owner, manager, or supervisor, do you recognize the red flags? Do you know how to supervise someone who might be susceptible to sexual boundary crossing in clinical practice? This training aims to prepare supervisors to prevent workplace sexual boundary violations and harassment, reduce liability, and prevent time waste.

Sexual Harassment in the workplace is costly and damaging to both employers and employees. Not only does it pose a risk of legal cost, drive up malpractice insurance premiums, but the human cost is the most devastating. This two-hour supervisors' training covers the legal and ethical guidelines for preventing sexual harassment, including identifying red flags and warning signs, as well as the necessary steps for employers to address ongoing harassment. Remedies and legal procedures available to victims will be covered. This is not legal advice; however, we cover required content regarding laws that govern sexual harassment and sexual boundary violations in psychotherapy.

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training Course Description

Course Description:

Sexual harassment, sexual assault, and boundary violations in the healthcare workplace violate core ethical principles shared across health professions (Bail, 2021). These issues can have serious consequences for clients, colleagues, and bystanders, including professional, cultural, social, systemic, and mental health impacts(Abdulla, et al., 2023).

This presentation provides clear definitions and examples of workplace sexual harassment, reviews relevant laws and professional ethical codes, and outlines workplace expectations, including the rights of healthcare workers, employer responsibilities, reporting options, and available remedies for victims. It also addresses sexual boundary violations (Steinberg et al., 2021) specific to mental health settings, the precursor of therapist who boundary cross with patients sexually (Celenza, 2007), erotic counter-transference, managing and supervising countertransference issues, and their impact on patients, clients, and supervisees, along with contributing factors to these ethical breaches(Steinberg& Albert, 2021). This training specifically addresses the needs of supervisors and issues that impact managing a practice and collaborating with other clinicians.

Case studies and legal context are used to help participants understand how to identify, respond to, and prevent sexual misconduct in professional practice.
