3 hours of critical ethics conversation every clinical supervisor should be prepared for.
This course explores the essential role of ethics in clinical supervision, examining how various codes of ethics—such as those from the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and the American Counseling Association (ACA)—provide a foundation for professional conduct, decision-making, and the protection of both supervisees and clients. Participants will compare and apply these ethical guidelines to address real-world dilemmas, ensuring that supervisory decisions are grounded in established ethical frameworks.
Through an in-depth analysis of ethical decision-making models (Lindblad, 2021) and key professional guidelines (ACA, 2014; APA, 2020), supervisors will learn how to navigate conflicts of interest, uphold client welfare, and foster ethical practice in clinical settings. Additionally, the course will highlight the impact of cultural competence on supervisory relationships, using case studies to integrate ethical considerations from NASW (2021) and AAMFT (2015).
Participants will also explore the role of ethical supervision in promoting prosocial behavior, drawing on Nejati and Shafaei’s (2018) research on ethical role modeling. Interactive case discussions will provide opportunities to apply theoretical concepts to practical scenarios, reinforcing the importance of ethical leadership in supervision.
By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to make ethically sound decisions, promote professionalism, and create a supportive supervisory environment that aligns with best practices in mental health care.
