Anna Yas, LCSW

Clinical Social Work Supervisor, Mental Health Professional Training Expert

Anna Yas, LCSW, is an experienced social worker specializing in clinical supervision, training, and curriculum development. Anna has supervised social workers for nearly ten years, focusing on the complexities of mental health practice and professional growth. Her supervision focus includes trauma-informed care, cultural humility, mindfulness, self-care and therapeutic engagement. She earned her MSW from DePaul University, completed an Advanced Psychodynamic Fellowship at the University of Chicago (2019–2020), and is a Level 2 therapist in Practice-Focused Training in Prolonged Grief Disorder.

Shan Ru Lin, MA, LCPC, ATR-BC, ATCS, is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Certified Art Therapy Supervisor in Chicago, Illinois, with over 15 years of experience in trauma-focused therapy and over 8 years of supervisory experience as a field, academic, and off-site clinical supervisor. She specializes in working with adult survivors of complex trauma and is a Certified Sexual Assault Counselor and EMDR therapist in private practice. As the founder of Spring Advisory, a mental health consultancy, Shan provides therapy, clinical supervision, and continuing education for mental health professionals.

  1. Describe the purpose of various codes of ethics and why being familiar with codes of ethics is crucial in supervision, including how these codes guide decision-making, promote professionalism, and protect both supervisees and clients.
  2. Compare and apply various codes of ethics (e.g., NASW, AAMFT, ACA) to evaluate and address ethical dilemmas in supervision, ensuring that decisions are grounded in established ethical frameworks.
  3. Apply Ethical Decision-Making Skills for Supervisors–Identify and apply three ethical decision-making models in clinical supervision to resolve conflicts of interest and protect client welfare. 
  4. Evaluate and assess the impact of cultural competence on supervisory relationships by analyzing case studies and incorporating ethical frameworks. 
  5. Acknowledge and critique the Role of Ethical Supervision in Developing Prosocial Behavior. 
  6.  Participants will apply ethical concepts, ethical dilemmas, and decision-making structure through interactive learning in case discussions.
  7. Define the role of a clinical supervisor in mental health practice.
  8. Explain the responsibilities of Clinical Supervisors
  9. Describe the purpose and goals of clinical supervisors in diverse settings. 
  10. Differentiate between administrative, clinical, and supportive supervision.
  11. Describe the core competencies of an effective supervisor (e.g., monitoring clinical work, evaluating competencies, fostering professional growth).
  12. Discuss methods for balancing gatekeeping responsibilities while fostering supervisee development.
  13. Explain the importance of documentation and evaluation practices in supervision.
  14. Definegroup supervision, purpose, benefits and limits.
  15. Compare and contrast individual and group supervision models, identifying the unique benefits and challenges of each, and determine when it is appropriate to use one over the other, or combine both, based on the needs of the supervisee and the setting.
  16. Identify and compare stages of group supervision, and goals and tasks in each stage.
  17. Describe various methods for evaluating the effectiveness of group supervision, including both formal and informal assessment tools.
  18. Apply effective strategies for managing challenging group dynamics to foster a productive and supportive group environment.
  19. Apply understanding of group supervision via interactive discussion.

FAQ

  • Q: I finished my course, where is my CE evaluation and exam link?

    A: On your course website, look on the left-hand side menu, and find the menu item to the CE eval and exam link. 

  • Q: I finished my exam, but I did not get my certificate, what happened?

    A: It's highly possible that you misspelled your email address when filling out the form. You can retake the exam to get the certificate resent to you. 

  • Q. I passed the exam by 70%, where is my certificate?

    A: You must pass the exam by over 80% in order to obtain your CE certificate, go back to your course page and access the CE link, retake the exam until you pass by 80%. You will be awarded your CE certificate upon passing at 80% or above.

  • Q: I created an account and paid for the course, but when I go to the dashboard, I didn't see my course, what happened?

    A: We often see people create two accounts by mistake due to the misspelling of email addresses. Then the paid course reside in the wrong-email-address account. Unfortunately, this requires manual help. Reach out to the Admin for assistance.

From 2023, all licensed health professionals in Illinois are required to take courses on sexual harassment prevention, alzheimer's assessment and treatment, implicit bias training, and mandated reporter training. Each training should be 1 CE credit hour to meet license renewal requirements. First time renewal of LCPC also requires a 18-hour training on supervision.
